It was my wifes birthday so along with two friends we decided to visit THE GATE. On entering we all felt a warm friendly atmosphere, inviting decor lead us to a well stocked bar. After a cheery greeting we were shown our very clean well laid table with comfortable seating and all this smokefree.
A mouthwatering reasonably priced menu offered a wide choice.Our order placed, there was now time to enjoy a pint from a good range of beers. When our food arrived it was a treat for the eye as well as the taste buds, good food well cooked well presented and delivered with the kind of service we all thought had long gone.
At the end of the evening when making our way out, the GOOD-NIGHT was as warm and cheery as the greeting, walking away we all agreed, when are we coming here again. Thanks to all at THE GATE for making our evening a very !

Thank you Terry for making our late Valentines celebration so special on Saturday night. The food as ever was excellent, delicious garlic mushrooms and superb succulent steaks to follow. This is making my mouth water as I type. Can't wait to come back.

* * * We used to frequent the gate years ago and we decided to try it again having heard that it had been refurbished.
The atmopshere is one of a very warm and welcoming, typical English pub. Terry, Wendy and all of the staff will look after you very well. The food is simply fantastic and in what must be close to thirty visits now we have never had cause for complaint. The guest ale is always worth a try along with the "peddy" and cumberland. The prices for what you get are excellent value and we find that the gate is simply hard to beat. Once you have been you will definately return and you will bring your friends along too. The place is now so popular with its reputation spreading fast that we would recommend that you always book to avoid disappointment- you would not want to miss out on this fabulous hostelry!
